We’ve decided on deadlytechnology.com as the home for the new blog. There isn’t much of a story behind the new name but I had spent a good few days with new domain names running through the back of my mind and couldn’t come up with much.
There were the typical web 2.0 names like: meebo and yibii and mupster but they don’t really fit the feel we’re going for on the blog. As well as the fact that a ridiculous number of those nonsense domains are registered and being sat on by the likes of Go Daddy. Go Daddy can go you know what.
After this phase of ruling out something web 2.0ish I started with the compound words – I don’t mean portmanteau type words but more the likes of onyxlobster, pegtree, blackcrab and other combinations that inspire random and hopefully memorable imagery. But nothing felt right in the list that I had, and meaningful imagery such as thoughtbubble was already taken.
I was struggling to get inspiration and looking to anywhere, reading random wikipedia articles, watching bbc documentaries and scouring through names of constellations. I have always thought the name VV Cephei would be a cool name probably just because of this animation but as luck would have it all of the stars on that video are taken by domain name squatters mostly.
So, exasperated and ready to give up I finally have a brain wave. When I say a brain wave – the answer was staring me in the face the whole time, quite literally. Listening to music is what I do in front of the computer most of the time, I had been listening to one track in particular quite a lot since discovering it about a week ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUyxQ9N0Ato.
Welcome to Deadly Technology! Regardless of the blog its a great track and I’m stoked we got the dot com.
